A Day of Prayer for the Unborn:
A Call to Reflect and Act
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you”
Jeremiah 1:5
In the hustle and bustle of our busy world, the Catholic Church sets aside a special day for reflection and prayer—the Day of Prayer for the Unborn. This day serves as a poignant reminder of the sanctity of life and calls believers to join together in seeking God's mercy and guidance for the unborn.
During the Day of Prayer for the Unborn, I invite you to ponder the Gospel message found in Mark 1:14-20: "Repent and believe in the Gospel." These words urge us to let go of worldly ways and embrace the life-changing power of faith in God's plan for all life, born and unborn.
The Gospel passage from Mark tells the story of the start of Jesus' ministry, where He calls on people to repent (turn around) and have faith in the Good News. When we think about this message on the Day of Prayer for the Unborn, we realize the need for a wake-up call—a recognition of the sanctity of all life and a commitment to protecting the most vulnerable among us.
In prayerful reflection, we seek forgiveness for any indifference or silence in the face of the challenges that unborn children and their families may face. This includes advocating for a culture that respects and values life from conception to natural death, providing support for mothers facing difficult decisions, and fostering a society that cherishes the dignity of every individual.
On this Day of Prayer for the Unborn, thank you for joining us in a collective prayer for the sanctity of life.
Father and maker of all,
you adorn all creation
with splendor and beauty,
and fashion human lives
in your image and likeness.
Awaken in every heart
reverence for the work of your hands,
and renew among your people
a readiness to nurture and sustain
your precious gift of life.
Grant this through our Lord
Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in
the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God forever and ever.
Amen
