August 2022, Catholic Liturgical Calendar
This month in the liturgical calendar, we celebrate both the Transfiguration of the Lord and the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
I love creating and curating collections inspired by special feast days in the church.
Inspired by the symbolism of the Transfiguration we have the Sunburst Collection and a unique Mountain Pendant Necklace (also called, Verso l’alto). And for the Assumption, the vintage-inspired Rosebud Crucifix.
On August 15, the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, commemorates the "dogma revealed by God that the Immaculate Mother of God, Mary ever virgin, when the course of her earthly life was finished, was taken up body and soul into the glory of heaven" (Munificentissimus Deus).
It is customary for the laity to bring herbs and flowers to be blessed on this day in thanksgiving for the first fruits of the harvest.
St. John Damascene, who died in the 7th century AD, beautifully states, "it is fitting that she, who had kept her virginity in childbirth, should keep her own body free from all corruption even after death."
Our Lady of the Assumption, pray for us!
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us!
Be radiant,
Jessica
