Catholic Scapular Necklace

What is the meaning behind the Catholic Scapular necklace?

Why Catholics wear a scapular necklace:

On July 16, 1251, Saint Simon Stock was blessed with a vision in which Our Lady presented him with the brown scapular, a profound symbol of faithful devotion.

The term "scapular" originally referred to a significant element of a monk’s habit, characterized by the sleeveless garment that drapes over the shoulders. This clothing was akin to an apron, serving as a metaphor for humility and readiness to do God's work, just as Mary exemplified in her life dedicated to Jesus.

Wearing the scapular serves as a constant reminder of our call to emulate Christ in our daily lives. This humble piece of cloth or metal signifies being clothed in the garments of Salvation, offering us a tangible connection to our faith. By adopting the scapular, individuals embrace it as a sacramental, representing their love and devotion to God.

Intended to deepen our connection to Mary, the scapular encourages a greater reliance on her intercession in our prayers. It stands not only as a symbol of grace but also as an invitation to foster a deeper relationship, inspiring us to reflect the virtues that Mary embodied in her devotion to Jesus.

Through this practice, we are reminded of the boundless love and grace bestowed upon us by God.
