February Liturgical Calendar

This week we are reminded to celebrate the sanctity of marriage during National Marriage Week 2022.

Throughout history marriage and the family have been under constant attack. Even during the 3rd century, marriage had been limited and even outlawed, to defy the Christians.

Saint Valentine is believed to have offered secret ceremonies for couples wishing to receive the sacrament of matrimony. After being arrested, St. Valentine went on to convert several of his captors and heal the guard’s daughter of blindness. Legend says that on his way to execution, St. Valentine sent a note to the friend he had healed and signed it “From Your Valentine.”

As believers, we must uphold the sacrament of marriage! Whether you are married or not, please pray for the Sacrament of Marriage and encourage those around you who are married to stand strong.

In the Holy Family we see a perfect example of the bond of marriage, faith and family this week as we celebrate the Presentation of the Lord (Feb. 2)!

“Behold, this child is destined
for the fall and rise of many in Israel,
and to be a sign that will be contradicted
--and you yourself a sword will pierce--
so that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.”

—Luke 2:34
