Happy Feast of St. Joseph the Worker!
It’s so evident God gave me the spouse I needed.
After 15 years of marriage, amidst raising six kids, owning small businesses, diving deeper into our faith and building a strong community of supportive friends, I can take a step back and appreciate the Lord’s Providence through my husband.
The way he diligently provides for our family, through his hard work and bold dedication to his Catholic vocation, Doug is more than I could have dreamt up: I’ll pause and save the sap for Father’s Day…
Similarly, I’m comforted and deeply grateful for the way St. Joseph was destined to be the spouse of the Church.
Today is the second Feast of St. Joseph [the Worker]. While we honor Our Lady on many days throughout the year, it’s unique that Jesus’ foster father has two celebrations. On March 19th we revere him as Christ’s earthly parent and protector, but today we focus on his dedication as a carpenter and skilled laborer.
Joseph was both a servant to God’s will and a provider to his family.
His tireless provision for Mary and child correlate with his commitment to human work. In this vein, we should seek to give of ourselves to the Lord; He’s calling us to use our talents and abilities as opportunities to fulfill His work.
If you’re looking to cling to St. Joseph’s spirit of service, take a peek at our St. Joseph collection of gifts. The physical reminder, perhaps the simple touch of the medal on your skin, can be a tangible tool to keep us on the path to which God has called us (Deuteronomy 5:32-33), whether it be in a professional, volunteer, spousal or domestic capacity.
