Catholic Cross necklace with women's Byzantine Crucifix
Byzantine Crucifixes date back to 300 AD, after the (Eastern) Roman Empire became Christian. The cross became a public symbol in Christian art and society. The cross was a common symbol in Byzantine daily life. In the Byzantine Crucifix depicted in iconography, the figure of Christ is not represented as a corpse. Rather he is shown with open hands supporting the cross, with a serene countenance.
This Byzantine Crucifix is 7/8" tall with a 3-dimensional figure of Jesus. The pendant is suspended from an 18" curb chain in either sterling silver or gold over sterling. Made in the USA.
